About Graveosity

Death leaves behind more than graves.

It leaves strange customs, unusual inventions, forgotten fears, old laws, curious traditions, and stories that can be far more interesting than they first appear.

Graveosity explores the strange things people have built, believed, practiced, feared, preserved, and remembered around death and burial.

Here you’ll find stories about body snatching and resurrectionists, unusual burial practices, grave protection, cemetery history, mourning traditions, forgotten customs, unusual graves, and other overlooked corners of history.

History With a Rabbit Hole

Our goal is simple: answer the question that brought you here, then show you something you probably weren’t expecting.

A familiar subject can lead to an old patent, a forgotten court case, an unusual cemetery invention, a strange custom, or a detail buried in a book written more than a century ago.

That is where Graveosity gets interesting.

We use historical records, books, photographs, patents, newspapers, government documents, museum collections, and modern research to separate documented history from legend.

When the evidence is uncertain, we’ll say so. When historians disagree, we’ll explain why. And when an old story turns out to be more complicated than the popular version, that is usually where the best rabbit hole begins.

Curious, Not Gruesome

Graveosity deals with death, but the goal isn’t gore for gore’s sake.

The interesting part is what these subjects reveal about people: what they feared, what they valued, how they treated their dead, how they solved problems, and sometimes the extraordinary lengths they went to protect a grave.

Some stories are dark. Some are strange. Some are surprisingly clever. Many are all three.

Keep Digging

If you enjoy finding the strange story hiding behind an ordinary question, you’re in the right place.

Another grave will always need investigating, another forgotten record will always need uncovering, and another rabbit hole will always wait just beneath the surface.

Why?

Because Strange Minds Think Alike
